The Many Works of Pat Hatt
I have seen this topic around over the years and this time last year I would have agreed that the free period you can use for your kindle book on amazon is worth using. That is as long as you have other books, as it always helped with other sales. But now the answer would be a big fat no.
Giving a book away for free on amazon is pretty much pointless now. It has become so over saturated with free books that all that happens is people download and never read them, if you are lucky. Now you barely even get any downloads unless you use a service of some kind.
Also it seems all you get now is hateful reviews from free books, that sure looks to be a growing trend as well. I guess they get their fanny up that free was too free? Beats me.
The only way free is any good that I can see is if you are able to get into something like Bookbub, but good luck with that as ever since they became popular they have a stick up their butt about what and who gets let in.
Before it may have been a damned if you do and damned if you don’t type of situation, but now it is rather pointless. So if you are thinking about doing a free book promotion, I’d recommend not doing it. Yeah, from those 3000 downloads you get, you may get a few readers and the numbers look pretty, but you are only fooling yourself. Of those 3000 downloads 99% of them will never read it or at best get to it in a year or two.
Have you ever tried free downloads on Amazon? Do you think it is still as good as it once was? I don’t think I’ll ever bother with it again.
Enjoy life, forget the strife.
